Competency task 1

Blogging

Students must create a blog using the WordPress software which will become an integral tool for this subject. It is anticipate that having access to the student’s blog will enable the teacher to access links to all other social media accounts created by the student for the course. This blog will enable the student to follow other students via their blogs and to share the blog accounts of library related organisations.

Students must create a Twitter feed and a Facebook account which can be used for this subject. For privacy reasons please do not use your personal social media accounts.

Students must follow the class blog via email and allow class mates to have access to their own blog.

Students must ensure their blog is listed on the class blog by emailing the teacher the blog address.

Students must include a post which discussed copyright implications with regard to uploading material to websites and social media.

Students must include at least one link in a blog post to the blog of another classmate where they have commented on that person’s post.

Students must include at least one post where they are reblogging the content of a post on a library related blog using the reblog feature at the bottom of each post in WordPress.

Students must share a blog posts to their Twitter feed create a post showing how they did that.

Students must share a blog post to their Facebook feed.

Students must embed their live Twitter feed into their blog using a Blogger gadget tool.

Students must embed a link to all their social media feeds in their blog sidebar.

Students must include a post with a link to a library related YouTube channel in their blog and embed a video from that channel into one of their posts.

Students must create two additional pages for their blog, one containing a list of suitable website creation and maintenance tools that could be used in a library and the other containing a list of at least 6 resources that might be useful to library staff considering creating a website for their organisation.
